The Women's Day, also known as International Women's Day, has been held annually on March 8 since 1921. The day was initiated by women of the socialist workers* movement and was celebrated in various European countries and the USA, at that time mainly with the aim of equal, secret and free voting rights for women. Today the day is meant to draw attention to the problems and disadvantages of women, also and especially of women who are marginalized in many ways: e.g. women with disabilities, trans women, women of color, refugee women etc. | |
